I am pretty much an old country boy from Carroll County, VA that first got introduce to fishing when I was wearing diapers. It wasn’t till the end of my college career that I found fly fishing and I have been in love ever since. I’m a working man that enjoys fly fishing and promoting this great sport. Also, and this took many years of work, I am a Master Level 1 Angler in the state of Virginia.
This website was originally dedicated to giving fly fisherman a resource that is practical and knowledgeable of the Southwestern Virginia and Southern West Virginia streams. I came up with the idea when I was searching for streams to fly fish in Southwestern Virginia and West Virginia. After reading several books and scouring the internet I came to realize there were no good sources of information when it comes to this area, most are outdated or aimed for the beginner fly fisherman. My mission for this website has been to give updated information and advice about different streams aimed for not just beginners but people who fly fish on a regular basis. Such information as: what casting techniques work, what gear you should bring (flies, rods, waders), any unusual things about the stream, and directions to the streams.
However, as of the Summer of 2018, I got transplanted to Milton, Georgia by my regular job. While I do miss Virginia and its gorgeous streams, Georgia and the surrounding states have become my mission to explore and it has changed this website’s mission. No longer will I just write about fishing in Virginia, I will write about the entire South Eastern US just as I have written about the streams in Virginia.
Also I am morphing Fly Bum Outdoors into a fully licensed business as well. I will be giving hour long fly tying lessons, fly photography (for those who want to sell their flies but do not have the equipment to take exceptional photos), and eventually I will provide a guide service. The guide service will come in Fall of 2019, I will start with wade trips only. Hopefully by 2020 I will be able to do float trips using my Fly Craft Stealth, however I must first get my captains license.
Hopefully this site will be of help as you plan your next fly fishing trip. Please feel free leave comments and if you have any questions you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
